Cubby's
We had a rare moment occur where both Jake and I had a free night during the week so we went out. I've heard raves about Cubby's in Provo and Jake wasn't opposed to place that included Chicago Beef in the description. I got the Tri Tip Steak Salad (oh yum) and Jake got the Dragonslayer Burger, naturally with a side of sweet potato fries. Myer just liked exploring. Cubby's got our vote!

the night the lights turned on
What's Christmas without Temple Square lights? And to even be there when they turn them on? That is truly ringing in the season watching millions of twinkle lights turn on at the same time. Magic. I've never been a part of that before, and didn't know it was a "thing" but apparently it is because there was a good crowd there. New tradition perhaps?
Myer only sat in the stroller if his cousin Navy was right next to him. During our stroll, he kept smiling at her, patting her blanket, and laughing at her. Navy kept asking, "yeww otay?". Gosh it was sweet. And only Aunt Jamie could push the stroller, I would get in trouble if I even tried. Myer likes things a certain way.
Oh, and we saw the beautiful windows at Macey's and talk about reviving an old love (remember the ZCMI windows?) My favorite part of Salt Lake at Christmas. Let Christmas begin! I'm ready!

the thanksgiving dinner
A few things:
1. Jake is participating in "Movember" (No-Shave-November) hence the beard. He says he's doing it for charity and that he'll accept any kind of donation.
2. The only thing Myer understood about this holiday was that turkeys "gobble" and potatoes aren't apples. These things make him laugh.
3. Playing with trucks help pass the time while waiting for the bird to cook
4. I've never been trusted baking anything for this feast--so I am the designated salad maker. And I take it to heart. This year I made a homemade cranberry dressing which was oh so yummy.
5. I eat two slices of pie.
Who knew Thanksgiving could be summed up so well? Until next year...

wedding wednesday
I love when weddings give us an excuse to hang out as a family.
Even my New Mexico sister and her husband.

hands-on
This Thanksgiving I am grateful for all that we have, even if it's not much. Our past year has thrown us a few loops but at least I have my home and other shallow items I could list off unlike those people who lost everything in Hurricane Sandy.
And I'm grateful this season to be a part of a church that understands that no matter how little or how much you have, it is important to help. We are all here with our own battles and trials, and a helping hand goes a long way. We've appreciated the paid-for groceries, dinners, free babysitters, and cheap and/or free double dates. (you know who you are). Thank you. Thank you.
Happy Thanksgiving.

over the hill
Had to visit the all talked about new Traverse Mountain Outlet Mall this weekend. With it all decked out in Christmas wreaths and trees, it was quite the opening. I can't believe that the holidays are almost here. We'll talk about that later, but I loved the twinkle lights nonetheless. We are excited, or in trouble, with these outlets are so close. As much as I love Park City, I love saving on gas too. I'm thinking I'm in trouble with those so close to me...ya, trouble.

his side of the story
"Mom, it was this big..."
"...and it fell over there and made it all white."
at least I think that's what he was saying.

first time doing the trick-o-treat thing
Kachow! Our little McQueen just loved the idea of getting a prize each time he knocked on a door. What a novel idea. And his pit crew didn't mind the left over candy either. How fun to be trick-or-treating again, and to see it through such new eyes.
We're having a hard time now knocking on doors and not getting a treat...baby steps.

painting pumpkins
I am still trying to catch up from my busy week last week, so this post is a little late considering it is no longer the month of October. It's November. But while we were celebrating the sacred month of October over here, we painted pumpkins. Jake had to out-do us and carve his (a spider) while M and I had fun with color. To my surprise, Myer did so well! He busily worked beside us and is proud of his work each time he sees it on the porch. He calls Jake's "scareee" and mine "mama's". So smart that kid.
The finished product! I'm so proud of our little door step.
Miss you October!
