the birthday bash

Complete with cake, balloons, banners, cupcakes, and friends.
We served a small lunch, the menu calling for ham & swiss sliders with sweet potato fries.
Myer opened presents, blew out his candle, and chowed down on his first cake.
It was a birthday at its finest, if I do say so myself.

Well, by Myer's full-fisted, open-mouth attitude
I'd say his 1st party was a hit!
And to spend it with friends and family made it even better.
I just love birthdays.

Happy birthday Myer!

and p.s. props to my friend Hilarie for taking all the pictures.
Thank you!

happy 365th day, Myer

One year.
Today.
Are we really here?
Sometimes I can see the "newborn" in you when you're sleeping,
and it brings it all back.
But other than that you've become you.
We were so excited to meet you and welcome you to our family
and we've had you for a whole year.
Our home is more active, silly, and a touch of auburn.
Just the way I imagined it.

Happy 1st Birthday Mr. Myer.
You are our world,
-Mom & Dad

the aquarium + rio grande zoo

First up we saw the fish at the BioPark Aquarium.  As you can tell from the above pic, Myer couldn't stop staring.  Glued.  It may have to do with having the best guide... Maddix showed us through the whole thing.  He showed us the turtle, sharks, and Nemo.  Can't forget Nemo.

The next day we braved the Rio Grande Zoo with two strollers, one being a double-wide, and Spring Break crowds.  But it was the best day.  All the animals were out and strutting their stuff.  Crowds schmowds.  Myer loved the gorillas and my favorite was the baby Orangutan. (just wait for the video).

The weather was perfect, the animals were friendly, and once again Maddix was our guide. That Rio Grande Zoo was something else. The animals were so close!  Myer pointed, laughed, and smiled to the animals he could see.  Can't wait to take him to our little Hogle this summer.  Tested and tried, we're all set for some exploring thanks to Albuquerque.

the Albuquerque gang

Oh man we are back! And we survived the plane ride!  Thanks to all you smart mommies out there.  What a jam-packed fun week.  I couldn't get enough of my niece and nephew and how much they grew!  They were perfect hosts for Myer and me, and we had a ball.  I missed them so much.  It was exhausting at times having 3 little children running around, but it was a good exhaustion.  (I got a nice little glimpse of what it would be like having more than one child...) Myer came home with this little bucket filled.  He better!  We also got the first class treatment seeing Albuquerque from the 2 year veterans--Mike and Jamie.  It's really artsy down there and it reminded me lots of St. George.  Wouldn't mind visiting again...

It was the best week just hanging out with family, especially my sister who I rarely see.  We even went out shopping and to dinner while Mike stayed with the kids one night, and it was bliss.  Truly.  I missed her so.

Next up-- the aquarium and zoo!

we're back, but first...

Happy St. Patty's Day!
and Happy Birthday to my niece, Navy.

I know it's customary to match your daughter,
but I'm breaking the rules and wearing matching pants with my son.
Tough!

Can't wait to share all about Albuquerque.
Stay tuned...

his first flight

We're leaving tomorrow to New Mexico! Yay I'm so happy it's here!  Both Myer and I need this break.  Being cooped up in the cottage without a car has done a number on us.  Can't wait to get in the sunny weather and just play.  And let's not forget playing with COUSINS!  It's been way too long since Myer's been with Maddix and Navy.  It;ll be pure joy seeing all 3 of them play.  Let's hope anyway.

But...um...I am terrified for this plane ride tomorrow.  It's only an hour and a half, but still it's an hour and a half.  And Myer has never been the one to sit on my lap and play.  Let's be honest, at church we are the parents roaming the back and the halls all 3 hours.  I'd love some advice/help...hint hint, so the people around don't hate me and blame me for never wanting children. I think this may be the day M gets introduced to sugar...

Pray for us. Cross your fingers for us. And we'll be back in a week! Peace!

my version of that overly priced branch

I really wanted a white birch tree branch for my living room
but I wasn't going to pay $80 for one...
So one day after my landlords cut down some branches from their trees
I scavenged one.
Isn't she pretty?

 first I stripped it,
 then I painted it,
 then I placed it.

finished!
Sitting and looking all pretty on the bookcase.
There is something oddly therapeutic stripping and painting wood.
Maybe I need to get out more...
But at least both the therapy and branch is all free.

in the zone--auto zone

Yesterday, hanging out at Mimi's, we pulled out my brother's hot wheels.
And so fast, this kid was lost in car land.
I'm talking silence for an hour while he played--  Jake and I call it his "speechless excitement".
When he gets really excited about something, he doesn't look me in the eye
and tries not to make a sound.
It's like he can't be seen getting excited over something.
Now who does that remind me of?....(ahem, Jake...)

He is just like his daddy- car loving and even kill.
Perfect.
